Parliament’s law enforcement committee unanimously backs motion to dismiss PG Kravchenko

17 committee members voted in favor. No one abstained and no one voted against.

Kravchenko, who tendered his resignation on Sept. 7 amid reports linking him to possible corruption schemes, announced on Sept. 14 that he had pressed charges against National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) Director Semen Kryvonos.

He claims that during Operation Carthage and related searches, anti-corruption bodies obtained protected materials and copied and stole some documents. According to Kravchenko, he had previously been restrained from making that decision by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Operation Carthage by NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) concerns the exposure of a criminal organization accused of “protecting” a network of fraudulent call centers. According to NABU, the organizer was Prosecutor General’s Office official Serhii Kropyva.

During the court hearing on a pre-trial restriction for Kropyva, a SAPO prosecutor also described Kropyva’s friendly ties with Kravchenko.

Ukraine’s Anti-Corruption Action Center NGO has said that, judging from recordings in the case, Kropyva arranged renovation work at a house in Kozyn where Kravchenko lives, including the installation of a gas generator.

After Kravchenko announced the charges against Kryvonos, Zelenskyy said that “this prosecutor general has only one path: dismissal.”

In comments to NV, NABU Director Kryvonos said he had not yet been formally charged with forging documents to obtain unlawful benefit on an especially large scale.

NABU and SAPO later said they view Kravchenko’s statements and the announced suspicion against Kryvonos as “a continuation of a systemic attack on independent anti-corruption bodies.”

Ukrainska Pravda, citing sources, reported that Kravchenko crossed the border overnight into Sept. 14 in an official vehicle through the Shehyni-Medyka checkpoint, while his wife left Ukraine on Sept. 12 at 1 a.m. through Moldova.

The prosecutor general says he is abroad on a “business trip.”

Servant of the People faction leader David Arakhamia said the Verkhovna Rada is expected to vote on Kravchenko’s dismissal on Sept. 15.
