The national selection for Eurovision 2026 took place amid emergency power cuts across the country. Overnight into Feb. 7, Russia launched cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and numerous drones at Ukraine. There were reports of hits and damage to infrastructure in the Rivne, Khmelnytskyi, Kyiv, and other oblasts of Ukraine.
Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal said that Russia had launched a massive strike on the Burshtyn Thermal Power Plant in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast and the Dobrotvir Thermal Power Plant in Lviv Oblast, as well as substations and high-voltage lines that form the backbone of Ukraine's power grid.
