Ukraine's largest mobile operator buys six solar plants for $80 million in major renewable energy push

Including its debut purchase in December 2025 — the 13-megawatt Sunwin 11 solar plant in Zhytomyr Oblast — Kyivstar's total renewable energy portfolio has grown to 118 megawatts. The company said that volume is sufficient to generate electricity equivalent to approximately 30% of its current annual consumption.

Electricity from the newly acquired solar plants will feed into Ukraine's unified energy system in accordance with current market and regulatory rules, partially hedging Kyivstar against electricity price volatility, the company said.

"Renewable energy is one of the key areas of Kyivstar's investment portfolio, as it opens opportunities to further use green electricity to cover part of the company's energy needs," Kyivstar President Oleksandr Komarov said.

The acquisition builds on a broader expansion push. In February, Kyivstar completed the purchase of a 100% stake in digital pharmacy platform Tabletki.ua, which allows consumers to search, compare and reserve medications and other products at Ukrainian pharmacies.

In the first quarter of 2026, the company's net profit rose 99.1% year-over-year to 3.687 billion hryvnias ($83.2 million), with revenue up 31.3% to 13.983 billion hryvnias ($315.7 million).

In August 2025, Kyivstar became the first Ukrainian company to list on the Nasdaq Stock Market.
