American neobank Mercury to block Ukrainian accounts
American neobank Mercury has announced that it will stop supporting accounts of companies whose founders have passports from several countries, including Ukraine, Petcube founder Yaroslav Azhnyuk reported on Facebook on July 22.
According to recent changes, Mercury will stop supporting accounts of companies whose founders have passports from Belarus, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Syria, Venezuela, and Ukraine.
Account holders will have access to their accounts until Aug. 6. After that, access will be restricted, except for the ability to complete payments before the accounts are completely closed on Aug. 13.
Azhniuk said this is not the first time the American financial system has treated Ukrainians this way. Previously, there have been problems with Chase Bank. In addition, in January 2021, the American financial service Robinhood blocked all Ukrainian IPs.
