Banks in Uzbekistan issue Visa and Mastercard cards to Russians
With Visa and Mastercard payment systems blocked, Russians are looking for a way to bypass Western sanctions imposed after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Vedi Tour Group, a leading tour operator in Russia, has offered its clients a “new exclusive tour” to Uzbekistan to obtain Visa and Mastercard cards, nuz.uz reports.
Bank cards issued in Tashkent can be used to freely pay abroad, as well as buy goods on the Internet. In Russia, it is now impossible for banks to issue such a card - in early March, Visa and Mastercard payment systems were blocked in the aggressor country. Within Russia, payments are made through the National Payment Card System (NSPK), developed by the Central Bank, which issues its “MIR” card. It is not accepted in most countries of the world.
To obtain an Uzbekistan bank card, only a passport is needed. Vedi Tour Group has already managed to develop a whole program, which includes Uzbekistan Airways and Uzbekistan Express flights, accommodation in a 4-star hotel and even assistance when visiting a bank.
An “exclusive tour” package for two days costs 50,000-70,000 rubles ($410-580).
