Canada to grant Ukraine nearly $350 million for gas ahead of winter
Canada will provide CAD 450 million ($348 million) to Ukraine for the purchase of gas before the start of the cold season, Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, reported on Twitter on Aug. 17.
“Another step of solidarity from friendly Canada,” the PM said.
“Ukraine will receive 450 million Canadian dollars in aid for the purchase of gas ahead of the heating season. Thank you to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Canadian Deputy Prime Minister — Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland and all the people of Canada for unwavering support of Ukraine in the struggle for freedom and democracy.”
The Cabinet of Ministers have been instructed to accumulate at least 19 billion cubic meters of gas in Ukrainian gas storages before the beginning of the cold season and to bring the amount of coal in TPP and CHP warehouses to 2 million tons.
Heating tariffs have been fixed for the season, according to a Sept. 2021 memorandum between the government, state oil company Naftogaz, and local authorities.
