Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers has appointed Petro Kotin, president of the state nuclear operator Energoatom, as the acting chairman of the board of the company following its corporatization, Energoatom reported on Telegram on Jan. 9.

Kotin is currently under investigation by Ukrainian anti-corruption authorities following an investigation by journalists into a property purchase made by his mother-in-law.

Hartmut Jacob, Yuriy Sheyko, and Oleksandr Ostapovets, who currently serve as members of Energoatom’s management team, have been appointed as acting members of the board.

The government has also approved the issuance of shares for the newly established company, with a planned authorized capital of 306.245 billion UAH ($8 billion).

To secure additional $100 million in energy assistance, Ukraine had to initiate a competition for electing supervisory board members by Nov. 30, 2023, and transform the enterprise into a joint-stock company by Dec. 31, 2023.

The Economy Ministry, starting on Dec. 1, 2023, sought supervisory board members and signed a contract with a selected company to facilitate the selection process. Energoatom officially became a joint-stock company on Dec. 29, 2023, with 100% state ownership.
