Supernova Airlines eyes resumption of cargo flights in Ukraine
Supernova Airlines, a cargo airline owned by Ukraine’s largest postal service, Nova, is eager to begin transporting cargo from Ukraine as soon as it is deemed safe, the group's co-founder, Vyacheslav Klymov, said in an interview with Economichna Pravda published on Nov. 18.
The main challenges to the resumption of air traffic are security and insurance.
"As soon as it is safe, we will be the first to fly," he said, adding that "there are many analogies with the (Black Sea) grain corridor."
"We are looking forward to the opening of the airspace. As an entrepreneur and logistician, I believe that we can start air transport of both cargo and passengers before the end of the full-scale war. There is an example of Israel, which is also under attack, but the whole world flies to Tel Aviv. That can be organized."
Supernova Airlines, owned by Klymov and his business partner Volodymyr Popereshniuk, was founded in 2021.
In 2023, it received permission from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency and the State Aviation Administration of Ukraine to operate in Europe and within the country. Later, in May 2023, Supernova Airlines made its first flight on the Riga - Rzeszow - Riga route with an ATR 72 aircraft in cooperation with the Latvian airline RAF-Avia.
This follows an earlier report by Reuters on Nov. 15 that Ukraine may resume flights to Lviv International Airport in 2025, as negotiations with European aviation authorities and airlines to resume some flights have been going on for almost a year.
