Ukrainian plant to build trams for Dnipropetrovsk Oblast
Ukrainian tram manufacturer Tatra-Yug LLC will supply 15-meter tram cars worth 14.3 million euros (15.4 million dollars) to the city of Kamianske in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Interfax Ukraine reported on June 11.
A contract for the supply of new tram cars has been awarded following a tender under the Urban Public Transport of Ukraine II program, financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB).
The tender for the supply of tram cars was first announced in January 2024, but the deadline for opening offers was postponed several times.
The contract calls for the delivery of new single-section or articulated trams (one-way type), equipped with at least two trolleys, along with spare parts, maintenance equipment, and related services.
The first batch of trams must be delivered no later than 52 weeks from the date the supplier receives the advance payment. The entire contract is set to span 128 weeks (32 months).
While the exact number of trams to be delivered remains undisclosed, in August 2023, after the Ministry of Finance approved the volume and terms for European funding, city mayor Andriy Belousov noted that 20 trams were planned for purchase with these funds, Interfax Ukraine reported.
Currently, the city of Kamianske operates 32 tram cars, including Czech-made Tatra models.
In related news, Tatra-Yug LLC will supply Kyivpastrans with five low-floor tram cars worth approximately $12.97 million by 2026. The cost of each tram will be approximately $2.59 million.
Tatra-Yug LLC is a Ukrainian manufacturer of tram cars, operating since 1993. Over its history, the company has produced seven different types of trams. The company manufactures its tram cars at the Yuzhmash facilities in Dnipro.
