White House to send $2 billion worth of air defense weapons to Ukraine for counteroffensive, Bloomberg
The U.S. is preparing to announce a new package of military aid for Ukraine that will include a significant increase in air defence weapons, Bloomberg reported on June 9, referring to Pentagon officials.
The White House plans to direct $2 billion for purchasing Hawk medium-range surface-to-air systems and missiles, as well as Patriot's GEM-T guided enhanced missiles and PAC-3 missiles with hit-to-kill technologies.
The Pentagon will announce the package once Ukraine’s counteroffensive is reported.
The U.S. National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications, John Kirby, confirmed on May 31 the country's intention to support Ukraine with new weapons, including Stinger anti-aircraft systems, Avenger air defence systems, and ammunition for HIMARS rocket launchers, artillery, and anti-armor systems.
The previous U.S. military aid package of $1.2 billion was announced on May 9 and included air defence systems, artillery rounds, satellite service, and more.
A $300 million military aid package was announced on May 3 with howitzer, HIMARS munitiona, Hydra-70 rockets, and more included.
