Dovbush star Oleksii Hnatkovsky speaks out on colleague’s choices

Actor Oleksii Hnatkovsky, renowned for portraying Ivan

“Dovbush,” has offered insights into his views on fellow actors
who have previously worked in Russia during an interview with journalist Alina
Dorotyuk on Oct. 5.
Hnatkovsky specifically mentioned his colleague Serhiy Strelnikov, who portrayed Oleksa Dovbush in the Oles Sanin-directed movie – which has ranked as the highest-grossing Ukrainian film of 2023.
“I have many friends who have worked in Russia, including Serhiy Strelnikov. I understand these things, and I don’t pass judgment,” said Hnatkovsky.
“I don’t say it’s good or bad. For me, Serhiy is a great example right now. He inspires me. I see how he thinks, how his positions evolve. He’s a great example. I currently see many people whose positions are changing, and the veil is lifted from their eyes. It’s powerful when people return to their true selves. You don’t have the right to condemn someone or give them a rating. I understand all the cause-and-effect connections. Who am I to judge?”
Hnatkovsky also revealed that he enlisted in the military from the early days of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
“Our entire theater went. I understand that every man should – sooner or later – take his turn,” the actor added.
Previously, Strelnikov had openly expressed regrets regarding his work in Russian cinema, saying that his roles there “no longer existed” for him.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
