Ukraine and Lithuania partner up for groundbreaking school design contest
Ukraine, in partnership with Lithuania, has announced an international competition to design the "School of the Future," aiming to revolutionize educational spaces across the country, Mustafa Nayyem, Deputy Infrastructure Minister, reported on Facebook on Feb. 26.
This project is being spearheaded by the Lithuanian government, the Restoration Agency, and supported by Ukraine's Ministry of Education and Science.
The competition will be managed by the Lithuanian Central Project Management Agency (CPVA), in collaboration with the Lithuanian Architects' Association, and is supported by a grant of €500,000 ($542,000) from the LT-AID fund. Scheduled to run through May, the contest aims to deliver a ready-for-implementation, adaptable technical plan for constructing new schools across Ukraine at no cost.
"Having such a solution will save time and money on valuable design work and help find funding for the restoration of Ukraine's school system," Nayyem stated.
The authors of the top three project ideas will receive awards ranging from €8,000 to €12,000, with the winner securing a €300,000 contract to develop the best adaptive school project. This project can be quickly tailored for construction in various Ukrainian regions.
The winning design will be freely distributed to communities, interested partners, and donors, expected to expedite donor funding decisions for school reconstruction. An international jury will select the winner.
