Zelenskyy enacts plan to create Ukraine's new Unmanned Systems Forces
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree approving the National Security and Defense Council's (NSDC) decision to establish the Unmanned Systems Forces as a separate branch of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU), according to a publication on the President’s Office website on June 25.
Zelenskyy enacted the NSDC decision and assigned the responsibility for its implementation to the NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Lytvynenko. Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers must submit appropriate proposals regarding creating the Unmanned Systems Forces to the Parliament within a month.
The president's decree took effect on the day of its publication, June 25.
AFU's Unmanned Systems (drone) Forces
Zelenskyy earlier issued a decree instructing the Armed Forces to create a separate branch of the Armed Forces for drones — the Unmanned Systems Forces.
The Cabinet of Ministers supported President Zelenskyy's draft decree on May 7.
On June 10, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov appointed Colonel Vadym Sukharevskyi as the commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces. He previously served as a deputy to Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi.
