War comes to Russian city of Belgorod as air alarms blare throughout the day, explosions reported

Several “air targets” were shot down by Russian air defense near Belgorod, Oblast Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on Telegram on Jan. 3.
“Air defense systems were activated over Belgorod and Belgorod Oblast — several air targets were shot down on approach to the city,” Gladkov wrote in the early hours of Jan. 3. “There is no information about the consequences at the current time.”
Later, the governor added that the village of Soloti in the Valuysky urban district “came under fire from the Ukrainian Armed Forces.” Preliminary reports indicate no casualties. Windows were blown out and roofs were damaged in two private homes, and a power line was also damaged.
An air raid alert was announced in the city.
There were several impacts in the Belgorod region and an S-300 air defense system was operational, reported monitoring group Chomu Tryvoha on Telegram.
Russia’s Defense Ministry reported a missile strike in the Belgorod Oblast on Jan.2.
Belgorod announced an air raid alert three times during the day, and explosions were heard in the city in the evening on Jan. 2.
Explosions also occurred in Belgorod on Dec. 30. Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov stated that the regional capital was shelled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Ukrainian Security and Defense Forces struck military targets in Belgorod, Ukrainian media reported.
However, debris fell in the city center due to “unprofessional actions of the Russian air defense” and “planned provocations.”
Russia reported 24 fatalities at the time.
