Belgium will not stop the supply of weapons to Ukraine while waiting for the results of an investigation into its weapons were discovered in use on Russian territory, Belgian daily newspaper Le Soir quoted Defense Minister Ludivine Dedonder as saying on June 9.
Suspending the supply of equipment to Ukraine is “not on the agenda” as “various things” can happen in a war zone, she said.
Dedonder emphasized that there is no confirmation of the information that the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK) used Belgian-made weapons on the territory of Russia during the raids.
FN Scar rifles could be seen in the photos, she said. However, it is unknown whether they belong to the weapons that Belgium supplied to Ukraine, or those other countries bought from FN, or whether they are weapons that were seized at the scene.
Dedonder added that she had sent a letter to Ukraine’s Defense Ministry to clarify the situation.
Belgium supplies weapons according to the needs of Ukrainians, while the main attention has recently been paid to anti-tank missiles, air defense and artillery, she added.
In total, Belgium has already provided aid to Ukraine worth EUR 274 million.
Brussels has launched an investigation into reports that Russian volunteers conducting raids in Russia allegedly used Belgian-made weapons provided to Ukraine, Prime Minister Alexander De Croo said on Belgium’s Radio 1 on June 5.
