Bulgaria grants exception for Russia’s Lavrov to fly to the OSCE meeting in Skopje

Bulgaria has officially confirmed that it will open its airspace for Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who is set to lead a Russian delegation flying to the Ministerial Council of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, or OSCE.
The meeting will be held in North Macedonia. The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry announced in a press release on Nov. 27 that an exception would be made to allow Lavrov’s plane to fly over Bulgaria.
The ministry said that it had received a corresponding request from the Russian side the day before. The diplomatic permit for the flight will be valid for three hours before and 72 hours after the scheduled date and time of the flight.
This is an "exception to the application of EU sanctions against him (Lavrov)", Sofia said. However, the permit does not extend to sanctioned members of Lavrov's delegation.
Earlier, North Macedonia had granted permission for the passage of Russian aircraft over its territory. The 30th Ministerial Council of the OSCE in Skopje is scheduled to take place from Nov. 30 to Dec. 1, bringing together representatives from 57 countries.
