China lifts ban on Boeing plane deliveries after US tariff deal

China lifted a month-long ban on Boeing aircraft deliveries following a trade agreement with the United States that reduced tariffs, allowing Chinese airlines to resume imports, Bloomberg reported on May 13, citing anonymous sources familiar with the matter.
Chinese authorities informed domestic carriers and government agencies that Boeing plane deliveries can proceed, with airlines free to schedule imports on their own terms.
The resumption provides an immediate boost for Boeing, though deliveries may falter if the three-month tariff truce expires without a lasting resolution. It remains unclear how quickly Chinese carriers can receive needed aircraft, Bloomberg noted.
Neither Boeing nor China’s Civil Aviation Administration commented.
Boeing planned to deliver about 50 planes to China in 2025, with the country expected to account for 20% of global aircraft demand over the next two decades.
The company’s trade role has grown political, as evidenced by a $10 billion White House deal with the UK, including a British Airways order for 32 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners.
The delivery ban stemmed from U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs, prompting China’s retaliatory duties and an order for airlines to halt Boeing imports, including equipment and parts.
