U.S. Congress urges Pentagon to repair ties with Ukraine
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has to establish relations with Ukraine and to back the country's fight against Russian aggression, Democratic member of Congress Marcy Kaptur, co-chair of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus, wrote on X on June 10.
Her call follows earlier announced US plans to reduce funding for military aid to Ukraine in the 2026 defense budget.
“Ukraine has been fighting for more than a decade," Kaptur wrote.
"What they’ve achieved with drones is astounding — and it will change the course of this war.”
She urged the US Secretary of Defense to restore defense cooperation with Kyiv, criticizing the White House administration for turning its back on Ukraine.
“We must help Liberty win,” she stressed.
On June 10, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhiy Tykhyi said that while military aid from the US continues to arrive, Ukraine is now working to purchase weapons directly from US partners.
On June 9, Foreign Policy reported that President Donald Trump may halt the delivery of US weapons to Kyiv, though he does not plan to abandon Ukraine entirely. His administration is expected to provide critical intelligence support, particularly for precision strikes on the battlefield.
On June 8, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy disclosed that the US diverted 20,000 anti-drone missiles intended for Ukraine to the Middle East — under a deal made by the previous Biden administration.
Meanwhile, The Telegraph reported that British and French officials, now drafting plans for peacekeeping operations in Ukraine, have begun discussing the need to “face reality” and shift focus toward assisting Ukraine without US backing.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
