Crimean representative criticizes attempts to dissuade Ukraine from regaining the peninsula

Some western politicians are warning of “nuclear war” if Ukraine tries to regain control of occupied Crimea, according to Tamila Tasheva, the Permanent Representative of the President in Crimea, in an interview with Polish news agency PAP on May 5.
The issue of returning Crimea has caused discussion among Western politicians, said Tasheva. They believe the peninsula can be returned to Ukraine, but the potential consequences could be enormous. Tasheva also stated that some politicians have argued that Crimea was never Ukrainian, and praised them for this stance. However, she emphasized that Crimea was never Russian either.
She said that for Russia, Crimea is a sacred territory and that Putin is obsessed with owning it. Therefore, some individuals in the West are afraid that if Russia is attacked in Crimea, it will use tactical nuclear weapons.
Tasheva did not reveal the names of the politicians she was referring to, but she said that Russia will not use tactical nuclear weapons “because Putin understands that this would be a point of no return and would destroy the entire system that he has built criminally in the occupied territories.”
An example of a successful libration, without the use of nuclear weapons by Russia, was Kherson – Tasheva noted that nothing happened, even though Moscow considered the act a violation of Russian territorial integrity. According to Putin’s nuclear doctrine, they were supposed to use tactical nuclear weapons immediately, but they did not, she added.
Earlier, Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov had stated that Ukraine would take back Crimea without a fight.
