It’s not a tragedy’ – Defense Council’s Danilov warns against overreacting if U.S. aid is delayed
National Security & Defense Council (RNBO) Secretary, Oleksiy Danilov, remains optimistic about the approval of U.S. assistance for Ukraine's defense, but he cautions against magnifying the delay into a tragedy if it arrives a bit later than expected.
"We'd be thrilled if we receive the gift before Christmas," Danilov told the BBC.
Even if the assistance arrives a bit behind schedule, there's no need to turn it into a tragedy, he added.
When asked about the possibility of Ukraine losing the war if U.S. aid were halted, Danilov dismissed this notion, asserting that "the truth is on our side."
"Will Putin obliterate us in front of the entire world? Will he harm our children, women, and elderly while the world watches with closed eyes?" he questioned, adding, "Then the question arises: in what world do we live?"
The $106 billion bill for funding assistance to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan failed to pass a procedural vote in the U.S. Senate on Dec. 6 due to Republican demands for a stricter immigration policy.
Ahead of the vote, President Biden urged Congress to promptly approve the aid package for Ukraine to prevent the need for U.S. troops to engage in combat against the Russians.
