EU should commit $5.25 billion in annual aid to Ukraine — Borrell

EU’s High Representative for Foreign
Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, has proposed a new program that
would see the European Peace Fund allocating EUR 5 billion ($5.25 billion)
annually to provide security
assistance to Ukraine. Borrell made the announcement at a press briefing in
Kyiv on Oct. 2.
"I hope we can reach an agreement by the end of the year," the official said.
He emphasized that the European Union remains united in its support for Ukraine and he sees no signs of "wavering" from any member states.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he had met with Borrell, and that the EU foreign ministers meeting in Kyiv demonstrates unity in its support for Ukraine.
On Sept. 30, Borrell arrived in Odesa on an unannounced visit, examining the destructive impact of Russian missile and drone strikes on Ukraine’s port infrastructure.
On Oct. 2, an away meeting of the Council of the European Union took place in Kyiv, attended by foreign ministers from all 27 member states. This was the first-ever council meeting of this kind held outside the current EU borders, noted Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.
