Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson met with U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump on July 16, Ukraine and ways to support the country were among the topics discussed, Johnson wrote on his X.
"Great to meet President Trump who is on top form after the shameful attempt on his life,” he wrote.
“We discussed Ukraine and I have no doubt that he will be strong and decisive in supporting that country and defending democracy."
Details on the assassination attempt
20-year-old Thomas Crooks opened fire with a rifle at a Trump campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13. The former president was injured in the ear. The shooter was killed, one rally attendee, Corey Compatore, a firefighter, was killed, and two others were wounded.
The FBI confirmed that Crooks acted alone. He was a Republican, worked at a nursing home, and legally purchased the AR-type rifle used in the attack. Authorities also found explosives in his vehicle.
President Joe Biden responded to the shooting, saying that there is "no place for politically motivated violence" in the United States and condemned the assassination attempt.
He would have been killed if he hadn't turned his head slightly to the right at the moment of the shooting, which caused the bullet to only graze his ear, Trump said in an interview with the New York Post.
