Magyar says he will talk to Putin but 'will not become friends'

He is ready to sit down at the negotiating table with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, the head of Hungary's new ruling TISZA party and now Prime Minister Péter Magyar stated, Nepszava wrote on April 11.
Journalists asked Magyar about now former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's words that he "would watch" how a "pro-Ukrainian government" negotiates with Russia.
"Let's stop joking," he replied.
"I don't think the outgoing prime minister takes himself seriously when he says such things on air. No one wants a pro-Ukrainian government in Hungary. They want a pro-Hungarian one, and we hope there will be one after April 12."
When asked whether he was considering sitting down at the negotiating table with Putin, he answered in the affirmative.
"Of course, if that's the case, we will have to sit down at the negotiating table with the president of Russia," he said.
Hungary and Russia are neighbors, and their geographical location will not change, Magyar explained. At the same time, dependence on Russian energy will remain for some time.
"If necessary, we will negotiate, but we will not become friends," the incoming prime minister emphasized.
The new government will focus on the real problems of Hungarians, rather than on foreign policy games, according to Magyar.
Péter Magyar's TISZA party is winning the parliamentary elections in Hungary with 98.32% of the votes counted; it is projected to win 138 seats in parliament, while Viktor Orbán's Fidesz party gets 55 seats.
