Israeli ambassador to Kyiv condemns Putin’s lies about Makhachkala pogrom
Israel’s ambassador to Kyiv, Michael Brodsky, has categorically rejected comments by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin claiming Ukrainian involvement in the Makhachkala pogrom.
Speaking in an interview with Radio Liberty on October 31, Brodsky also condemned the periodic statements by Russian propagandists about Nazism and anti-Semitism in Ukraine.
"I have already said many times that there was and is no Nazism in Ukraine at the state level, at the level of people who make decisions," Brodsky said.
“This is complete nonsense. Now, the level of anti-Semitism in Ukraine is low. We do not face it. In Ukraine, there were no demonstrations in support of terror or speeches in support of Hamas, unlike in most European countries.”
On Oct. 30, at a meeting on the situation in Russia’s Republic of Dagestan, Putin said that the riots at Makhachkala airport "were inspired through social networks, in particular from the territory of Ukraine, by the hands of the West's special services."
On the evening of Oct. 29, hundreds of people gathered at the Makhachkala airport due to the arrival of a Red Wings flight from Tel Aviv, which was thought to be carrying refugees from Israel.
The protesters checked cars leaving the airport in search of Israeli citizens and then broke into the airport, including the runways, looking to assault Jewish individuals.
