British FM David Lammy visits Berlin, focusing on NATO support and Ukraine aid
New British Foreign Minister David Lammy made his first official visit to Berlin, where he met with his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock, the German Foreign Office reported on X on July 7.
The ministers discussed "strengthening European support for NATO" and increasing the effectiveness of assistance to Ukraine.
They also addressed the situation in the Middle East, acknowledging U.S. President Joe Biden's plan as the only viable solution to end the conflict.
"It's time to reset our relationship with our European friends and allies. That's why I'm in Germany, on my first visit as Foreign Secretary. Together, Annalena Baerbock and I will address shared threats and support Ukraine," Lammy wrote on X.
Earlier, on July 5, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba had his first phone conversation with Lammy and invited him to visit Kyiv.
On the same day, in a phone call with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, new UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer assured that London’s support will remain “unwaveringly principled.”
On July 5, King Charles III invited Starmer to form a new government, following a landslide Labour victory in the general elections. Winning a nearly record-breaking parliamentary majority, the Labour Party has now ended the 14 years of Conservative rule in the UK.
