Lukashenko claims ‘destruction’ of Ukrainian drones over Belarusian territory
Self-proclaimed Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko
announced that Belarusian air defense forces, on heightened alert, had
destroyed drones allegedly launched by Ukraine toward Belarus and Russia, Belarusian
propaganda outlet Belta reported.
“At 7:04 p.m., at an altitude of 1.5 kilometers and a range
of 6.5 kilometers, several targets were destroyed by air defense forces over
Belarusian territory. Throughout the night and this morning, we are searching
for what was destroyed. We suspect these were strike drones,” he noted, adding
that some of the targets were destroyed over Belarus, while the rest were “handed
over” to Russia.
Lukashenko claimed that the drones initially supposedly
headed toward Smolensk but then changed their flight path and moved toward the
Yaroslavl area. However, they were intercepted by Russian air defense systems.
It was previously reported that since July 2024, at least
nine Russian Shahed-131/136 kamikaze drones, which regularly attack Ukrainian
territory, have entered Belarusian airspace. Among these drones:
- One exploded and fell on Belarusian territory
- Seven returned to Ukrainian airspace
- One disappeared.
