Satellite images show 29 Russian aircraft at Morozovsk airfield before Ukrainian forces' strike
An estimated 29 fighter jets were potentially stationed at
Russia's Morozovsk airfield in Rostov Oblast during the recent attack, OSINT
analyst MT Anderson said on X
on April 5.
MT Anderson released corresponding satellite images taken on April 4, estimating that the airfield hosted at least 26 Su-34 aircraft and three Su-30/35 jets.
A series of loud explosions were heard overnight on April 5 in the cities of Morozovsk (Rostov Oblast), Engels (Saratov Oblast), and Yeysk (Krasnodar Krai), where Russia’s military airfields are located. Rostov Oblast governor, Vasily Golubev, confirmed that a power station was damaged.
Ukraine’s SBU security service, in conjunction with other units of the Armed Forces, carried out the assault, according to NV sources. At least six aircraft were destroyed, and eight suffered significant damage from the strikes. The airfield housed fighter bombers Su-27 and Su-34, which Russia employs to bombard Ukraine with precision-guided missiles.
The Morozovsk military airfield is located about 3 km southwest of the city. It serves as the base for the 559th Bomber Aviation Regiment of Russia’s Aerospace Force’s 1st Guards Composite Aviation Division.
The Engels airfield is home to Tu-160 and Tu-95MS heavy long-range strategic bombers, which Russia actively uses to launch missile strikes on Ukraine.
The Yeysk airfield is used by Russia’s Navy, Air Force, and Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviation). The 859th Training Center for Russian Naval Aviation and the 190th Training Mixed Aviation Regiment are based here.
