War can happen at ‘any time’ – NATO Admiral says as he urges readiness

We are now in an era where anything could happen at any time, including war, NATO’s Military Committee chair, Dutch Admiral Rob Bauer, said at the opening of a two-day national defense chiefs meeting in Brussels, Reuters reported on Jan.17.
In the past, governments of NATO countries lived in an era where everything was abundant, predictable, controlled, and focused on efficiency, Bauer said.
Following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, there is a need to adapt thinking to an “an era in which anything can happen at any time, an era in which we need to expect the unexpected, an era in which we need to focus on effectiveness in order to be fully effective,” he said.
NATO will continue to assist Ukraine.
“Ukraine will have our support for every day that is to come, because the outcome of this war will determine the fate of the world,” Bauer said.
Russia might attempt to attack Europe at the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025, when the US will be “without a leader” and can only come to the aid of European states after some delay, Bild reported earlier.
This refers to the period between the departure of current U.S. President Joe Biden in early November 2024 and the inauguration of his potential successor in January 2025.
