Kalibr missiles fired from Sea of Azov mark key shift in Russian tactics

Russians launched four Kalibr-type missiles from the Sea of Azov overnight, the Ukrainian Navy spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk said on national television on June 22.
"This marks a significant turning point because the Russians consider it a safer area compared to the Black Sea," Pletenchuk said.
The effectiveness of Kalibr missiles is not what it was at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he said. The Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) "know what to do with them," Pletenchuk said.
There is one Russian submarine in the Black Sea that could carry four missiles, he said. Three missile carriers in the Sea of Azov could have up to 20 missiles on board.
The Navy spokesperson reported on June 18 that a Russian naval group was in the Sea of Azov, likely related to the training activities of the occupiers.
Russia attacked Ukraine with Shahed strike drones and cruise missiles on June 22. Twelve of 16 missiles and all 13 attack drones targeting critical infrastructure were intercepted, the Ukrainian Air Force said. Specifically, Russia launched four Kalibr cruise missiles.
