North Korea crossed ‘red line’ by supplying missiles to Russia — Zelenskyy
North Korea's transfer of ballistic missiles to Russia for use against Ukrainian civilians crosses a “red line,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Jan. 17.
In addition to ballistic missiles, Pyongyang has provided Moscow with more than a million artillery shells, the Ukrainian leader added.
"This is about war," said Zelenskyy.
“Artillery is about war on the battlefield. But there was another step. These are ‘red lines.’ Because these are missiles.”
The president stated that Russia had attacked Ukrainian civilians with North Korean-supplied missiles.
"We had a North Korean missile flying at civilians," he continued.
“And civilians died. It was not on the battlefield, not at the front. It was directed against civilians.”
White House National Security spokesman John Kirby said during a briefing on Jan. 4 that Russia was using North Korean ballistic missiles in Ukraine. The missiles were reportedly launched at Ukraine on Dec. 30, 2023, and Jan. 2. During the first attack, a North Korean missile landed in Zaporizhzhya Oblast, and on Jan. 2, Russia fired several such missiles, Kirby said.
South Korea's permanent representative to the UN, Hwang Joon-kook, said on Jan. 10 that North Korea is using Ukraine as a test site for ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads.
The United States later imposed sanctions on three Russian entities and one individual involved in the transfer and testing of ballistic missiles imported from North Korea.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
