Ukraine to leverage Gen. Zaluzhnyi's battlefield wisdom to defeat Russia, top security official says
The experience of former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi will be used to further Ukraine's victory, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov said in an interview with Ukrainian Radio on Feb. 9.
"Today I attended the ceremony of awarding the Hero of Ukraine star to Valerii [Zaluzhnyi's], and I am sure that [his] experience will be used for our future victory," he said.
Everyone understands the importance of unity in the fight against the aggressor, which is now temporarily on Ukrainian territory, said the top security official.
"And we need to involve in this fight everyone who has experience, who wants to fight – fight for our victory," Danilov stated.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed Zaluzhnyi on Feb. 8 from his post as chief of the Armed Forces by decree.
Oleksandr Syrskyi, the commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was appointed in his place.
On the same day, Zelenskyy conferred the title of Hero of Ukraine on Zaluzhnyi and Defense Intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov and presented them with the Order of the Golden Star.
Zaluzhnyi received the award for outstanding personal merits in the defense of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and selfless service to the Ukrainian people, and Budanov received the award for personal courage and heroism in the defense of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
