Russians damage more than 40 historical buildings in Kharkiv after multiple missile strikes on Jan. 23

Russia launched three missile strikes on Kharkiv in one day, they targeted the central part of Kharkiv, where lots of historical buildings were damaged, Suspilne Kharkiv reported on Jan. 25
The National Academy of Law Sciences of Ukraine, the Annunciation Cathedral, and residential buildings in the modern and constructivist styles are damaged because of missile attacks.
Missiles hit the building of the National Law Academy of Ukraine on Pushkinska Street. One of them hit the second-floor lobby, the other hit the yard.
As a result, “the ceilings and roof of a historic 19th-century building collapsed, and the interior decoration was largely destroyed beyond repair.” Viktor Dvornikov, an architect and representative of the NEMOLab initiative, told Suspilne Kharkiv.
“There was authentic parquetry in the rooms - now we can only see the debris under the rubble.The woodwork: doors, some windows, stucco moldings in the interiors - this is now destroyed.”
The Annunciation Cathedral, the largest cathedral in Eastern Europe, completed in 1901 also suffered serious damage. The damage included stained-glass windows and glazings in the drums of the domes, which have artistic and historical value.
About 15 damaged modernist buildings were counted in Kharkiv on Kotsarska St., including a building that was hit during a missile strike on Jan. 16 and then got hit again on Jan. 23.
In total, officials estimate that about 40 historic buildings sustained damage and destruction on Jan. 23.
Russia’s attack on residential buildings in Kharkiv on Jan. 23 has resulted in 11 deaths.
A 61-year-old woman died in hospital on Jan. 26. There are 60 more people reported injured, including six children.
