Russia continues negotiating arms supplies with North Korea — Washington
Russia remains in negotiations with North
Korea over potential supply of weapons and ammunition Moscow could use
against Ukraine, U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said at a
press briefing on Sept. 27.
"We have repeatedly spoken about this and warned that the weapons negotiations between Russia and the DPRK most likely happened during Kim Jong Un's trip to Russia; and we believe they are ongoing," said Miller.
According to him, the discussions could involve not just a potential transfer of North Korean weapons to Russia, but also the transfer of Russian technology to the DPRK.
Miller noted that potential actions by Russia and the DPRK would violate the relevant UN Security Council resolutions that Russia formerly voted for. The official has once again urged Pyongyang to refrain from supplying weapons to Moscow.
On Sept. 13, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un arrived in Russia in an armored train. In Vladivostok, he met with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and wished him "victory" in the war against Ukraine.
The North Korean dictator also met with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, who took him to the Knevichi airfield. According to Reuters, Shoigu showed Kim Jong Un Russian Kinzhal aero-ballistic missiles which Russia uses to target Ukrainian cities.
According to Ukrainian intelligence, the DPRK began supplying Russia with artillery shells months ago, albeit in limited quantities.
