Russia’s rocket attack on the Chernihiv drama
theater on Aug. 19 could have been "adjusted" in order to
"drown" the
drone exhibition's co-organizer, Maria Berlinska, political analyst Mykola
Davydiuk said in an interview with Radio NV on Aug. 19.
"There is a (conspiracy) version. I've heard it many times in person, as well as seen on social media. I can't confirm or refute it," Davydiuk said.
Berlinska has been considered as a future Ukrainian Defense Minister, currently occupied by Oleksii Reznikov. There are consistent rumors that he might resign following a corruption scandal involving procurement at the Defense Ministry in February 2023.
"I can say that before people were killed at this exhibition or nearby, she (Berlinska) was considered as a candidate for the defense ministry position. Now she is one of the most bullied persons in Ukraine. Analyzing the event after the fact, these missiles combined with psychological operations could work against her," he said.
Seven people were killed and at least another 148 were injured in the Russian missile attack on central Chernihiv in the morning of Aug. 19, when a drone exhibition, a popular church holiday, and sunny weekend weather drew many residents to the center.
Social media users criticized the organizers of the drone exhibition which took place in the drama theater. They said it was obviously dangerous to hold such an exhibition near the border with Russia.
Berlinska has become the main object of criticism, while many Ukrainians, including celebrities, expressed their support to her. Russia is the one guilty of the attack, not her, they say.
