Russia suffers ‘horrific’ losses in Bakhmut, White House says

The United States estimates that in
capturing Bakhmut
in Ukraine’s Donetsk Oblast, Russia has suffered staggering losses in a
“meatgrinder” of a fight, White House National Security spokesman John Kirby
said at a press briefing on May 24.
“This offensive, basically, was horrifically expensive for Russia,” news agency Ukrinform quotes Kirby.
“As I’ve said before, (the battle for Bakhmut) has become a sort of a meatgrinder for them.”
He added that the recent U.S. assessment of 100,000 Russian losses – including killed and wounded in action troops, along with deserters and surrendered troops – remains an accurate estimation of the price Moscow paid for seizing Bakhmut.
That assessment was voiced by Kirby on May 1, and was later confirmed by U.S. President Joe Biden and Ukraine’s Defense Ministry.
According to Kyiv, Russia has lost 204,000 troops in the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, so far.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
