Kyiv faces unprecedented drone and missile barrage since war outbreak
Russian forces launched a record-breaking assault against Ukraine with 539 drones and 11 missiles, air defense managed to down 478 enemy targets, Air Force reported on July 4.
The attack included:

539 drones — both Shahed-type strike UAVs and various decoy drones, including over 330 Shaheds
-
1 Kinzhal Kh-47M2 aeroballistic missile
-
6 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles
-
4 Iskander-K cruise missiles.
As of 8:00 a.m. on July 4, air defense downed 270 targets, with 208 more neutralized or lost by location due to electronic warfare (EW). In total, 476 drones (268 shot down and 208 suppressed or lost) and 2 Iskander-K cruise missiles were neutralized.
Kyiv was the key target in the overnight Russian strike.
9 missiles and 63 drones hit eight different locations, along with debris from downed targets falling in 33 areas.
Kyiv residents heard powerful explosions during the night of July 4. As a result of the combined drone and ballistic missile strike, 23 people were injured, debris fell in five city districts, and multiple fires broke out.
The previous record for air attack numbers was set on June 29, when Russia launched 537 drones and missiles at Ukraine, of which 475 were intercepted. That attack also included a record 477 drones.
