Russians won’t abandon Kherson voluntarily, says journalist
There’s no reason to expect Russian forces to voluntarily withdraw from occupied Kherson, Editor-in-Chief of Ukrainian news outlet Censor.NET Yurii Butusov said in an interview with NV Radio on Aug. 30.
“Currently there is nothing to suggest that (Russia will pull out of Kherson),” said Butusov.
“To the contrary – Russian commanders are pooling additional resources there. Besides the bridges (across Dnipro River), which are vulnerable to our attacks, the enemy can erect pontoon crossings and other means. It’s impossible to completely cut off their supply lines by attacking bridges.”
Butusov warned that there’s much yet to be done before Kherson is liberated, with heavy fighting ongoing in the region.
“The enemy is aware of this; they are concentrating forces, hoping to seize the initiative… I don’t see a possibility of them simply withdrawing anytime soon,” the journalist added.
“We’re fighting an enemy who still enjoys a huge advantage in equipment and ammunition. It’s a very difficult area to advance in. Open terrain favors heavy military equipment and air power. I think it will remain an active battlefield for a long time.”
The Armed Forces of Ukraine launched a counteroffensive in Kherson Oblast on Aug. 29.
Local media reported on Aug. 31 that Russian military convoys are en route to Kherson from occupied Melitopol, Zaporizhzhia Oblast.
