Russia withdraws most military personnel from Belarus, says border guards spox
Russia has withdrawn most of its troops from Belarus, Ukrainian State Border Guard Service spokesman Andriy Demchenko announced on Sept. 7.
"At the moment, as part of a rotation, Russia has withdrawn practically all of its units that have completed their training. Instead, no new units have been sent there," Demchenko said.
Belarus has been used as a training ground for Russian military personnel, with some 10,000–11,000 troops stationed there, he said.
Efforts to strengthen the border to prevent any incidents of sabotage remain ongoing, Demchenko said.
Earlier, it was reported that Russia had transferred troops to participate in its offensive on the Kupyansk-Lyman section of the front in eastern Ukraine, according to the Joint Forces Commander of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Serhiy Nayev.
