FPV drone developer injured in car bomb near Yekaterinburg

Russian pro-war Telegram channel Mash reported that Vladimir Tkachuk, the developer of the Upyr drone and author of the pro-war Telegram channel Povernutye na voine, was injured in a car bombing near Yekaterinburg on Aug. 5.
According to the Telegram channel, Tkachuk's Mercedes-Benz exploded in the settlement of Verkhny Istok in the Sysert district near Yekaterinburg after an explosive device planted underneath the vehicle detonated.
Tkachuk's driver and bodyguard was killed at the scene. Tkachuk was taken to a hospital and is reportedly in intensive care in critical condition.
Russia's state news agency TASS reported that law enforcement authorities had opened a criminal case on charges of attempted murder.
Volodymyr Tkachuk heads Uraldronezavod, which manufactures the Upyr FPV drone. According to Russian authorities, the drones are used in the war against Ukraine to strike armored vehicles. Tkachuk previously took part in a meeting with Vladimir Putin as a developer of unmanned aerial systems.
