Ukraine's air defenses intercept Russian drones over Mykolaiv
In the early hours of Tuesday, Aug 6, the Russian military launched an attack using Shahed drones on the Ochakiv and Kobleve communities in Ukraine's Mykolaiv region. Ukraine's air defense forces successfully shot down 13 drones in the area, according to Mykolaiv Governor Vitalii Kim.
Kim reported that the attack and falling debris sparked three fires in open areas, all of which were quickly extinguished by firefighters.
In the Ochakiv community, three private homes were damaged, while in the Kobleve community, debris fell outside a recreational facility, breaking windows in an outbuilding and damaging the facility. Fortunately, there were no casualties from the strike.

In the early hours of August 6, air raid sirens were sounded in several regions across Ukraine. Explosions were heard in Kyiv shortly after the sirens. The Kyiv City Military Administration warned that Russia had used ballistic missiles, including Iskander-M or KN-23 types. Air defense forces were active in the capital and the surrounding area.
Ruslan Kravchenko, head of Kyiv’s regional administration, reported that the attack damaged an apartment building and two gas stations.
According to Mykola Oleschuk, commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, the Russian attack involved:
- Four Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles launched at Kyiv from Russia's Voronezh region.
- Two Kh-59 guided air-launched missiles fired from airspace over the Sea of Azov.
- Sixteen Shahed attack drones launched from Cape Chauda in Crimea and Kursk, Russia.
Ukrainian air defense forces successfully intercepted and destroyed four missiles and 15 drones.
