Russian shelling hits Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy oblasts overnight
A series of Russian artillery attacks targeted cities across Ukraine’s Sumy, Kharkiv, and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts overnight, Ukrainian officials reported on Sept. 8.
Enemy artillery and rockets struck Nikopol in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, according to regional governor Valentyn Reznichenko.
“Eleven private homes and nearby buildings were damaged, along with some solar panels and a local school; a power line was disrupted,” Reznichenko said in a Telegram post on Sept. 8.
A key industrial object in Kharkiv’s north-eastern Saltivskyi District was hit by a Russian missile, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said.
“(In Saltivskyi District) it looks like a critical city infrastructure object was struck,” Terekhov wrote in a Telegram post.
According to the mayor, firefighters are working to contain the fire caused by the attack. Meanwhile, Russian forces launched 17 mortar attacks at Esman in Sumy Oblast, shooting from across the Ukraine-Russia border.
“The russians opened fire twice with mortars, targeting Esman; 17 total hits,” Sumy regional governor Dmytro Zhyvytskyi said on Telegram.
According to Zhyvytskyi, the attack was ineffective, resulting in no casualties or significant damage.
