Russian troops have advanced near three settlements in Donetsk Oblast, according to the DeepState monitoring group on Telegram on Aug. 7.
Russian forces allegedly advanced in Niu York in the Toretsk sector and in Zhelanne in the Pokrovsk sector. Additionally, the Russians have made advances near Mykilske in the Kurakhove sector.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated in a nightly report that Ukrainian defenders were repelling Russian attacks in the east, with no positions lost.
The hottest spot remains the Pokrovsk front, where Russian troops have launched 31 assaults since the beginning of the day, according to the General Staff. In the Toretsk sector, the aggressors attacked Ukrainian troops 14 times near Toretsk, Niu York, and Pivnichne.
Situation in Donetsk Oblast
In June, Russian troops attempted to advance on Pokrovsk, Myrnohrad, and Selydove in Donetsk Oblast, aiming to capture a vital highway to Kostiantynivka. Russia increased its offensive operations in Donetsk Oblast, intensifying attacks in the Toretsk-Horlivka area, which had seen little activity throughout 2024, according to the U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) on June 23.
Russian forces launched an assault on Chasiv Yar from the Toretsk direction. On July 4, Khortytsia operational-strategic group spokesperson Nazar Voloshyn confirmed that Ukrainian Defense Forces had withdrawn from the Kanal neighborhood in Chasiv Yar. Later, Ukrainian troops also pulled out from Urozhayne village in Donetsk Oblast.
In July, DeepState reported the Russian capture of Rozdolivka village and the occupation of Prohres, where Ukrainian Defense Forces were surrounded until July 25. ISW reported on July 26 that Russian troops advanced near Avdiivka and likely captured the villages of Yasnobrodivka and Lozuvatske.
Reports on July 30 indicated battles were underway on the outskirts of Toretsk. ISW wrote that Russian troops were moving intensively toward Pokrovsk and making significant tactical gains. However, on July 31, Toretsk authorities confirmed that Toretsk remained under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, with ongoing fighting reported on the town's outskirts by DeepState.
Former Aidar battalion company commander Yevhen Dykyi said on Aug. 6 that Russians had crossed the water barrier in Chasiv Yar. Fighting continues in the town center after Ukrainian units withdrew from the Kanal neighborhood in July.
On the same day, footage of the Russian tricolor being raised over the Niu York training building in Donetsk Oblast was posted online. Andriy Kovalenko, the head of the National Security and Defense Council's Center for Countering Disinformation, denied that the settlement had been completely seized.
