SBU claims responsibility for 2022 Crimean Bridge attack
The head of Ukraine’s SBU security service,
Vasyl Maliuk, has confirmed that his department was behind the Oct. 8, 2022,
attack on the
Crimean Bridge, the SBU said in a press release in July 26.
During a public event presenting a new postal stamp that celebrates SBU’s work, Maliuk briefly touched on some of the ways the security service has defended Ukraine against the Russian invasion.
"The destruction of the Crimean Bridge is one of our accomplishments," he said.
He thanked SBU employees for their work and wished them to always return safely from each and every combat mission.
"I am convinced that the unique special operations carried out by the SBU will become subjects of new stamps," Maliuk at the event.
The illegally constructed Crimean Bridge, which Russia uses to transport troops and supplies to southern Ukraine, has been attacked twice. On Oct. 8, 2022, several of its spans collapsed as a result of a powerful explosion.
On July 17, another series of explosions have damaged a span of the road bridge. Russian authorities admit that they will not be able to fully restore it by the end of 2023.
NV’s sources in Ukrainian national security circles suggested the most recent attack was carried out using naval drones.
