SBU detains paramedic in Odesa for allegedly aiding FSB in directing missile strikes

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in Odesa Oblast has detained a man suspected of collaborating with Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) and directing missile and drone strikes on one of the region's port cities. The arrest was announced on August 20 via the SBU’s official Facebook page.
According to the investigation, the 39-year-old suspect, who worked as a paramedic at an emergency medical station, was gathering information on the locations of State Border Guard Service personnel and Coast Guard ships, as well as the positions of air defense systems protecting the Odesa region.
The SBU reported that the suspect caught the attention of Russian intelligence and was recruited by the FSB in April 2024, after he began posting anti-Ukrainian comments in pro-Russian Telegram channels.
Following FSB instructions, the suspect collected intelligence during his trips along the coastal zone, often while working as a paramedic. He recorded the gathered data on Google Maps and sent it to his Russian handlers in the form of screenshots.
The SBU stated that they had documented the suspect's actions, detained him, and conducted a search of his residence, where they found two mobile phones that he used to communicate with his Russian handlers.
The suspect has been charged with high treason under martial law (Part 2, Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and faces a potential life sentence with confiscation of property. The court has ordered that he remain in custody as a preventive measure.
