SBU detains woman suspected of leading arson group on Russian orders

Ukraine’s SBU Security Service detained a woman in Kyiv who
is suspected of organizing arson attacks on military vehicles ordered by the
Russian Army General Staff, SBU reported on Telegram on Aug. 9.
According to the investigation, the suspect was recruited by an officer of the General Staff from Russia to conduct subversive activities in the capital and discredit Ukrainian military. According to the plan of the Russian intelligence officer, she was to create her own agent center in Kyiv among the residents of the capital. Their main task was to set fire to the vehicles of the Armed Forces, the SBU said.
The Prosecutor General's Office claims that the detainee coordinated the actions of a group of arsonists, provided them with instructions on how to make improvised incendiary devices with which they were to destroy military vehicles.
To expose the suspect, law enforcement officers engaged a "double agent" - also a resident of Kyiv, who was previously exposed by the SBU.
The woman was detained when she personally tried to film one of the arsons as evidence for the Russian special services. An improvised incendiary device and a cell phone with evidence of subversive activity were seized at the scene, the SBU said.
The detainee was served a notice of suspicion of treason. The court imposed on her a measure of restraint in the form of detention.

Man, who set on fire military cars in Odesa was detained on July 12. The suspect (as it turned out, he had left his military unit without permission a few months earlier) said that he was promised 80 thousand hryvnias ($1.900) for the arson, but received only 937 hryvnias ($22).
A 22-year-old Rivne resident set fire to the cars of Ukrainian soldiers following Russian instructions, Ukrainian National Police reported on July 16. The videos of the burned cars were later published by Russian propaganda media, presenting them as arson attacks carried out by “Ukrainians who oppose mobilization.”
The suspect first coordinated the arson attack with a supervisor from the Russian special services and then poured a flammable mixture on the relay cabinet.
An FSB agent, adjusting Russian missile strikes on the Ukrainian Armed Forces' positions (among the priority targets were air defense positions in Odesa) and carrying out arson attacks on important sections of the railway in Odesa Oblast was detained, the SBU reported on July 23.
A group of saboteurs consisting of Cherkasy and Kharkiv residents, who set fire to critical infrastructure equipment and military vehicles on Russian orders was exposed, the Kyiv Prosecutor's Office reported on July 24.
SBU announced detention of a fitness trainer who, according to investigators, set fire to military vehicles in Kyiv, Dnipro, and Odesa on Aug. 7.
