SBU and HUR launch drone attacks on Russian military airfield and infrastructure – NV sources
Ukraine’s SBU Security Service and the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) targeted a Russian military airfield, a power substation, and an oil depot with drones during an overnight attack, informed sources told NV on July 9.
Ukrainian special services targeted the following locations:
- Akhtyubinsk military airfield in Astrakhan Oblast
- A 500 kV power substation in Rostov Oblast
- An oil depot in Kalach-on-Don in Volgograd Oblast
Russian Telegram channels reported on the operation of the Pantsir air defense system and a series of large explosions during the UAV attack on the Akhtyubinsk military airfield. This information was later deleted, which sources suggest indicates a successful attack, as Russian authorities often "clean up" information when important military targets are hit.
"The SBU, together with the HUR and other Defense Forces, will continue to ensure hot summer nights at Russian military facilities working for the war against Ukraine. The enemy will pay for all its inhuman crimes," the source said.
Several Russian regions experienced massive drone attacks overnight, leading to fires at the sites of strikes and from falling debris.
Rostov Oblast Governor Vasily Golubev claimed that air defense destroyed several dozen targets in different parts of the region. As a result, two transformers at a power substation in the Rodionovo-Nesvetaysky district caught fire.
Additionally, there was an attack on the town of Kalach-on-Don in Volgograd Oblast. Local Telegram channels reported hearing explosions around 4 a.m., followed by a fire near the local oil depot, with a black column of smoke visible from various parts of the area.
