Telegram denies working with Russian intelligence services
Following an investigation by Important Stories into Telegram’s possible ties to Russian intelligence, the company said all servers are owned and maintained solely by Telegram staff, according to an official comment to Vot Tak on June 11.
Telegram’s press service issued a statement denying any unauthorized access to its servers or users' personal data. "No third party has access to their servers or users' personal data," the company said.
The company emphasized that all servers are owned and operated solely by Telegram employees, and unauthorized access to them is technically impossible.
Telegram also clarified that it has no employees or servers in Russia. The messenger further stated that it has never transmitted personal messages to third parties, and its security has never been compromised.
While Telegram acknowledged working with contractors in various countries, it insisted that none of these contractors have access to user data or critical infrastructure.
Investigators from Important Stories reported that part of Telegram’s server infrastructure is allegedly managed by a company controlled by Russian national Vladimir Vedeneev, which reportedly services FSB complexes used for surveillance.
The journalists cited Global Network Management (GNM), based in Antigua and Barbuda, which manages Telegram’s server equipment. The report suggested this arrangement could pose risks to user privacy.
Telegram has categorically denied these allegations, but the details of the investigation remain subject to independent verification.
