Ukraine repatriates bodies of 250 fallen soldiers
Ukraine repatriated the bodies of 250 fallen Ukrainian soldiers, Ukraine's Reintegration Ministry reported on Telegram on Aug. 2.
The repatriation process involved the Ukrainian Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the Commissioner for Missing Persons, and was supported by the Joint Center of the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU), Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC), other security agencies, government departments, and international organizations, including the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
The bodies and remains will be transferred to designated state institutions where forensic experts will work to identify the deceased.
After identification, the bodies will be returned to their families for a dignified burial.
The previous exchange of deceased soldiers occurred on May 31, when Ukraine brought back 212 fallen defenders.
The first reported repatriation of fallen soldiers since the full-scale Russian invasion began took place in June 2022, when Ukraine and Russia conducted an exchange under the "160 for 160" formula.
