An employee of a district military recruitment center ran over a 2-year-old boy in his car in Ukraine's Odesa Oblast and fled the scene. Police in the region's Podilskyi district are investigating the crash, according to the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast.
The recruitment center employee, who was reportedly delivering draft notices in a village within the Balta municipality, struck the child after he had stepped away from his father, then left the scene of the crash.
Police said the boy suffered bodily injuries and was taken to a hospital.
Investigators have opened criminal proceedings under Article 286 (violation of road safety or vehicle operation rules by a driver, resulting in bodily injury) and Article 135 (abandonment of a person in danger) of Ukraine's Criminal Code.
The driver is to be detained in accordance with legal procedure, and police are working to establish the full circumstances of the crash.
