Trump, DeSantis oppose transferring cluster bombs to Ukraine

Former U.S. President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, the frontrunners for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, have spoken out against providing cluster bombs to Ukraine, the Hill reported on July 12.
Trump said that the U.S. President Joe Biden "should not be dragging us further toward World War III by sending cluster munitions to Ukraine."
Ron DeSantis also opposed the Biden administration's decision to supply Ukraine with cluster bombs.
"I would not do that, no. I think it runs, I think it probably runs a risk of escalation," DeSantis said.
"Basically what I said from the beginning is no weapons that could lead to attacks inside Russia or escalating the conflict."
Washington announced a new package of military aid for Ukraine on July 7, which included Dual-Purpose Improved Conventional Munitions (DPICMs), also known as cluster bombs.
Biden said his decision to supply the bombs was made in light of the Ukrainian military's dwindling artillery stocks.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov later emphasized that these armaments will only be used in efforts to reclaim Ukrainian territories, and not in populated areas.
He also pledged to maintain meticulous records of their usage, promising to share reports on their deployment and effectiveness with Ukraine's international partners.
